        Diagnostic Characteristics:

        The Mercedes Benz 280 SL casting is a Wave 4 casting. It is constructed using the 1973 version of the casting. It has been found in three enamel colors.
        The wheels are attached in the style of the 1973 release where suspension cutouts in the base are not used. The wheels are Type 3 through hole blackwalls.
        The interior is not the normal Mercedes interior but instead is taken from the Sand Witch casting

        Colors:
        • Light Blue
        • Yellow
        • Red

        Wheels:
        • Type 3 Through Hole Blackwall

        Interior:
        • White "Sand Witch" Interior

        Glass:
        • Clear

        Comments:

        There are no apparent casting differences in the CIPSA version of the Mercedes Benz 280SL. The prominent and fascinating unique characteristic of the
        CIPSA 280SL is that the interior is incorrect for the casting. CIPSA utilized the interior from the Sand Witch casting in all known examples of the casting.

        The second example of the Mercedes Benz 280SL is piece is missing a wheel and comes apart. The Sand Witch interior can be clearly seen




        Mercedes Benz 280SL in Light Blue

        The Mercedes was confirmed in May 2006 when this light blue piece appeared on eBay. It appears to have been factory repainted.
        Similar factory repainting has also been seen on the Rocket Bye Baby and the Jet Threat, all Wave 4 releases.
